Club History
The Australian Shepherd Club of the Rogue Valley's purpose is to
promote the Purebred Australian Shepherd and code of ethics provided
by the Australian Shepherd Club of America The club hosts educational
programs, conformation shows, obedience trials, stockdog trials,
agility trials and versatility awards. The stockdog trials and agilitiy
are usually inconjunction with another club. The club meets once
a month usually at a members home. Stories, questions and training
ideas are shared at most of the meetings.
The ASCRV got its start with the help of the Australian Shepherd
Club of Oregon. ASCRV put on shows with their sanctioning help until
they felt they were able to create their own club in 1979. There
are still charter members in our club today; Bob Arlandson, Pat
& Bryce Hutchinson, George & Joann Frey and Bernadette Daniels.
The ASCRV has put on 2 ASCA National Specialties; 1985 (800 dogs
competing) and 1996 (1,700 dogs competing) and may do more in the
future.
Aussies Oregon History (research completed by Barbara Applegate)
As much as we know the Aussie started in the north east area of
the Oregon /Idaho border around the turn of the 20th century on
ranches and farms. The first registered Australian Shepherd was
Baggerly's Blue Boy (National Stockdog Registry) which was owned
by Mr. Rusty Arnew of Baker, Oregon. Blue Boy was a foundation dog
for many of the north west Bloodlines. The first Stockdog titled
in Oregon was CH Buster Brown of Looking Glass STD ducks owned by
Pat & Bryce Hutchinson. The first Titled Ranch dog was Ch Las Rocosa
Pepe CD, RD cattle owned by Bernadette (Gilman) Daniels. The first
Champion was Ch Sharp's Ragnar owned by Leslie Sharp. The first
obedience title was earned by Hilltop Kachina Doll CD owned by Johnny
& Wanda Robertson.
